An epic(?) quest into costuming, violin, and fantasy.

Thinking about rabbits…

Or more specifically: I’ve been having some thoughts about Rabbit, my bard character from Baldur’s Gate 3:

…and these are my ideas:

The design in Baldur’s Gate 3 for the bard costumes is very nicely done, but it’s not necessarily very me, so I’m using it as a jumping off point, rather than trying to make a “screen accurate” recreation. I was always a terrible cosplayer, ha. If I’m going to wear something vaguely Renaissance-y, I’m going to lean into some of my favorite aspects of Renaissance costuming (or rather, Ren-faire wear): poofy pants and silly sleeves.

I finished all the ruffling on the shirt. I just need to make some thread buttons to fasten the cuffs and collar. This shirt started out as a garden variety early modern shirt, as described by the Costume Historian, that I made a couple of years ago in my Musketeers phase. The body and ruffles are made out of cotton muslin; the cuff and collar bands are white-on-white patterned quilting cotton. Since this is from a few years ago, and because the ruffles eat up a lot of real estate, the collar and cuffs are a bit too small; someday I’ll make a new shirt…

Also, I stitched both panels for the pants, but I’ve run out of bobbin thread and shoulder and patience so I’ve called it a day. All of this fabric is from my stash, which is fantastic because I don’t use a lot of blue in my other costuming or mundane sewing endeavors. I’m stitching the strips down to a poly-cotton base that’s been recycled from a never-finished cosplay a few years ago.
