So, the pattern fits! I ended up shortening the paper version by an inch, then totally didn’t need to do that, but that’s my own silliness, not a knock against the pattern or instructions. The fit is a bit loose around the back armscye, but again, not a pattern problem, that’s how everything fits on me, and since I’m going to be adding wings and lace on sleeves, I’m not terribly worried. Plus, in the fiction of this costume, it’s supposed to be made up of scraps and parts that Rabbit has acquired over the years rather than something custom made by a master tailor.
I traced, marked, quilted, and cut out the outer fabric of the doublet. I had to postpone cutting the canvas, to figure out a location where I don’t have to lean over to cut because my back is so messed up |D

I’ve had a lot of angst over this doublet. I tried to talk myself out of caring about it. The game model looks to me like a leather doublet with cutouts, and I don’t have the skill or the budget to work with leather like that, and I didn’t want to use pleather because I do try to keep my costumes breathable whenever possible. But I think that a reverse applique technique like this is a pretty acceptable alternative for me.
I’m handstitching all of the cross motifs because I’m not dexterous enough with a sewing machine (also: I like hand sewing!) then carefully cutting out the top layer of fabric. I’m leaving a somewhat generous allowance to account for fraying/curling edges.
