An epic(?) quest into costuming, violin, and fantasy.

Growth (again)!

Man, I had an epiphany with violin this week. I read someone’s perspective on musicality that was, to paraphrase, that music is a discussion between artist, audience, history, and composer and I was like “whoa wait hold on, a whole lot of things just made sense all of a sudden.”

(I never was big into the “just express an emotion!” camp of musicality but never could figure out why, beyond General Emotional Regulation Issues. I’m much more able to relate to “technical skills allow you to express musical choices” and “music as a discussion” like the cute little robot that I am. I wasn’t huge into solo playing as a youngster because “express an emotion through your playing, also it has to be the correct emotion but we won’t tell you what that is and also you’ll get yelled at for the wrong technical choices” just sucked, but I really enjoyed orchestral and chamber groups because like… the give-and-take aspect is really apparent lol)
